That's the same on any board that uses the 91xx chipsets. Yes, all the X58 boards that use the Marvell chipsets say they have "SATA 6Gb/s!", but the reality is the chipset is connected to one PCI-E lane, whose max speed is 5Gb/s. But, I don't have an Intel SSD on the Marvell SATA ports, so I don't know if the other Toolbox functions work, like the Optimizer.īTW, the Marvell chipsets actually run at 5Gb/s (yes, Five) not the true 6Gb/s speed of SATA III. The SSD Toolbox will recognize a SSD on the Marvell chipset with the msahci driver. I use the msahci driver on my ASUS X58 board's Marvell 9128 chipset, and it works fine, better than the Marvell driver IMO. Find msahci in the list and follow the prompts until complete. Choose the Driver tab, then Update driver, and Browse my computer for driver software, and finally Let me pick from a list. You do that from Device Manager, by finding the Marvell chipset under Storage controllers. What you can try (if you use Windows 7) is changing from the Marvell driver to the native Windows 7 AHCI driver, msahci. Wondering if there is anymore information on this? Running Freenas 9.2.1.8 with this controller and cannot see any of the drives attached to it. Otoh, it's printed right on the box that this card supports Linux 2.6x and above so it doesn't look like they've made an effort to shut out alternative OS's but without better confirmation that support is coming, I guess I'll just return it and get the Monoprice card.(pita). Not sure now if the lack of support is the greater fault of Marvell or the server developers but the fact that UNRaid also doesn't provide support makes me feel that Marvell is the problem and I don't want to support a company that doesn't provide developer support. I suppose it's not that big of a deal since one can get this card " 4 Port SATA Serial ATA PCI RAID Controller Card - Silicon Image" from Monoprice that reportedly works for under $20 dollars + shipping though for low end non critical home systems. The idea that so little effort is needed to supposedly provide support in FreeNAS for this card as mentioned above makes me feel that this couldn't be true or that development of FreeBSD is severely wanting. The card fails detection in both FreeNAS and UNRaid. I was happy to hear this as I just bought this dang card on sale but I guess I will be returning it as reality of 9.2 support hasn't panned out.
